Miksi Kyokushin?
Kyokushin is a full-contact martial art that emphasises physical toughness, mental strength, and continuous self-development. The motto of the style, “Osu”, is reflected in training through courage, perseverance, and the power of team spirit.
Although Kyokushin is a full-contact martial art, this does not mean that every practitioner needs to become a full-fledged fighter. On the beginner course (and in the advanced group), training is safe and supervised.
In Kyokushin, everyone has their own path of development and their own goals — some want to improve their fitness, others want to learn self-defence, and some aim to compete. There is no single right option.
In training, practitioners are not compared with one another. Instead, the focus is on developing one’s own skills, fitness, and courage step by step. The most important things are a positive atmosphere, training together, and everyone finding their own way to practise the style.
Course content
- Duration 3 months
- 2 instructor-led training sessions per week
- A safe and encouraging training environment
- A grading examination is held at the end of the course
Price
80€ includes the beginner course and training until the end of the current season.
Equipment
To start, all you need is indoor sports clothing and a water bottle. A karate uniform (gi) is purchased after the beginner course.
Insurance
Members must obtain their own insurance when necessary. It is good to note that the terms of most adult accident insurance policies do not cover injuries that occur in martial arts. In some insurance companies, accident insurance for young people may also cover martial arts, but this should always be confirmed with your own insurance company.
Injuries requiring medical treatment are not common, but they can still occur, as in any sport.
After the beginner course
After completing the beginner course, training continues in a varied and goal-oriented way. There are four training sessions per week, each lasting 1.5 hours. The themes of the sessions vary depending on the day, so weekly training develops technique, strength, endurance, and fighting skills in a balanced way. The price of the advanced course is €80 per season (spring or autumn season).
After the beginner course, the equipment needed for the advanced course is purchased. The equipment can be purchased through the club or independently. The list below includes the required equipment and approximate purchase prices.
- Karate uniform: juniors €65 / adults approx. €85
- Shin guards 30€
- Chest protector / breast guard (for women) 41€
- Groin guard (men/women) 15€
- Mouthguard 7€
- Belt 8€ (After the beginner course, the belt colour is orange.)
- Sparring gloves 35€
When moving on to the advanced group, you will also have the opportunity to participate in competitions and training camps both in Finland and abroad. You can take part in events according to your own goals — either as a hobbyist or as a competitor.
Kyokushin Karate offers an effective way to improve your fitness, learn self-defence skills, and make new friends.
Registering for the beginner course does not commit you to anything! You are welcome to try the training for a couple of weeks and attend several sessions before deciding whether you would like to continue.
You also do not have to join on the official starting date. New participants can still join during the first couple of weeks after the course begins.
We warmly welcome you to join the beginner course!
